There is a known, relatively recent bug that occurs when you change leagues. 
The game rewards you with 20 engines every time you join a new one.
I recently started a second account to see how the game is for newcomers, and I encountered this behavior multiple times. 
I was planning to write a list of all the minor bugs I've spotted, but something always gets in my way.
Anyway, I might be wrong, but this is likely what's happening here as well.
