Qualifying session with red tires

Wouldn't it be better to hold qualifying using the softest tires, and only then choose the race-start tires? This would allow for the possibility of a one-stop race—creating a mix of one-stop and two-or-three-stop strategies. Under the current system, if you want to do a one-stop race, you're effectively out of contention before you start; you begin too far back and have to burn half your "boost" just to get to the front, leaving you with no chance for the top spots. This change would make races much more entertaining and strategic battles more suspenseful. It would also boost competitiveness for weaker teams; qualifying grids are often mixed, and during the race—from the leaders down to the middle of the pack—no one knows if their rivals will opt for one stop or two. Consequently, there would be a much greater chance of victory or high finishes for less competitive cars. Right now, strategies are predictable: the frontrunners are guaranteed to make two stops, while those further back might try a one-stop strategy. The racing becomes static because the strongest cars always finish ahead; since everyone is likely on the same two-stop strategy, the superior car's performance advantage inevitably secures the win.

It’s a pretty good idea—and that’s really how it should be: a qualifying session using the same super-soft tire, determined by who developed their car best for that race, but allowing drivers to freely choose their starting tire regardless of their qualifying position, in order to ensure strategic variety.

The problem, at least from my point of view, is that Jack is very conservative and afraid of upsetting the more veteran managers who want everything done their way—and that leads to upsetting those managers who like the advantage of starting up front by using the same tire (almost always the medium), and don’t like the idea that someone could start fifth on hard tires and opt for a different strategy. Almost always, these kinds of proposals are rejected out of fear that veteran players will complain and say that they’re ruining the game they’ve been used to their whole lives.
