Hi,

New player here- still trying to figure everything out.

I joined my league halfway though a season- think I did about 7 races. Season has just been reset to start again tomorrow and all my car attribute levels have changed (mainly dropped!)

I'm about half a bar behind the top players in my league (tried to upload a photo but it won't let me), especially in downforce and cooling.

What's the best way to work on catching them up? I've just upgraded my TD and CD, but could only get 3 stars. Any other tips?

Welcome, Kate!

Upgrade the Design HQ, to get more design points. Also, the top teams who are half a bar ahead are probably only far ahead in those specific areas, and those will be the strengths of their CD. In other areas you are probably much closer.

However, with a 3 star TD and CD your research will be only half as powerful as it could be. The best thing you could do to be more competitive on design this season would be to get a 5-star TD and CD. That's the most essential leveller of the playing field in the game, no matter what level everyone else is. You'll find early in the game as you level up much quicker than later in the game you'll probably be rotating staff a lot to keep them at 5 stars, but this is normal.

Try to hire drivers that have Talent ratings 1 or 2 levels above your manager level with good experience.
That way you can keep the drivers for 2 or 3 seasons and you can continue working in the Headquarters and only Staff you need to keep looking for 5stars each season as you move up a level or two.

Thanks guys. If only there were any 5 star staff for sale! Is there a guide or anything somewhere which explains all this stuff for newbies?

Not yet, but new players are encouraged to ask questions, lots of experienced folks are ready to help.

can someone pls tell me this. there is only 4 of us in our Pro league. and only 2 active players .. we were batling for the title. but now that season finished, i noticed .. lets say, my aceleration, fell from 45 to 4. his remained at 40+ ...

why did this happen if i may ask ? i have CD and TD at lvl 4 ( were 5 when i bought them but droped due to my lvling up im guesing )

how can i still compete with my oponent if my car is sudenly practicly at start again. ?

Nik, CD's strengths and weaknesses.
If his is still 40+ that's because it's his CD's strength. I can see, it's your CD's Weakness, is why yours is so low.

Ok, next bunch of questions.... is the 'ideal' car setup ever wrong? Just done my 5 practice laps and one of my drivers had a quickest lap with the wing level one point higher. Should I stay with this level or use the 'ideal' setting?
Also, I've logged in to watch a couple of races and apart from learning that the push level does NOT make the car go faster (dammit), I always seem to screw my poor drivers over by meddling too much. What should I look for during the race in order to do something about it?

Thanks for all the help- appreciate it.

Things to watch.
Tyre temp and wear levels with one eye and the weather icon and commentary with the other. (small screen helps)

Car in front is on the same tyre and wear levels are low, slip into pits and try to undercut him if he drove on. (long as he is not the best team with tyre economy in research area)
Changing to inters or wets, hopefully your not in the last corner when it rains and get a chance to see what the water levels are filling up like. (Sometimes waiting a lap instead of changing right away works out better)

Practice
Drivers sometimes make errors while driving or get stuck in traffic, the Ideal setup should be faster than a made up one. (system was patched a while back)

Qualifying
Push level matters (though some will tell you it doesn't matter)
Think on it like the race, cooked tyres are always slower than optimal temp tyres, the same goes for a cold tyre.

Race
That's where hours of perpetration and fine tuning go out the window. (Music, TV, People Talking, Kids Yelling. Blank them all out & keep your eyes on the race)

A driver who runs a faster lap on an 'un-ideal setup' than the ideal set up doesn't necessarily mean anything.

My interpretation of the ideal set up is that it is the set up that will provide the most consistent lap times.

When adjusting push level, it affects the temperatures of the tyre and the health degradation of the driver (when it comes to health degradation this is not a significant change in comparison to how stamina affects health degradation).

Depending on the compound of the tyre and how soft or hard it is, the push level will vary. The tyre compounds react differently in the wide range of temperatures (e.g. Softs and Mediums are managed easily well in moderate weather, but Hard tyres can get significantly cold if the push level isn't high enough).

Increasing push level also affects fuel consumption. You can see how this works by changing a driver's push levels in the Strategy settings, saving the changes, and performing a practice lap. Fuel consumption will increase on higher push levels, and decrease on lower push levels.

This is very true.

Also, I have a sudden urge to make a thread on basic gameplay for new players.

Until your disgruntled spouse pulls the plug, or the yelling kids run and jump into your lap, or something gets spilled on the table the computer is on... Lol. Or your oldest child is trying to run your second team and asking a million questions

It's nice to say, but I've had all that happen so just like the chaos of pit road, you just have to pay attention the best you can

Can u give an advice or two about the drivers as well ?

I had a quite better car last season then my oponent. but he managed to win every race with quite a big gap with one of his drivers.
Is there such a big difference because his driver is talent 14 and my is 6 ? ty for answers

Drivers make mistakes, and the lap times aren't exactly the absolute benchmark of performance. The Ideal setup button will buy the ideal setup for any conditions, and it changes as the weather changes. It's always the safe bet.

Also, I realise there is no guide to the game at this stage, just some very basic tutorials. It can obviously be quite confusing getting started and I appreciate everyone who comes to the forum to ask when they need help. We are just a 3 man team, and wanted to wait until the new platform is stable before writing guides. It only released just before September, so it's still very young, and we've been making significant revisions, developing new featuers and chanigng hte game quickly in response to feedback. We can do this a lot quicker without the need to rewrite a bulky guide each time. Before mobile launch we will document everything, as it should be "feature-stable" by then.

Hi Jack (and everyone else),

It's ok- I'm more than happy to make myself look stupid asking questions. It would probably help if I had played some other F1 type game before..... but unfortunately I haven't. Having said that, I'm really enjoying the game and learning about it- now just need to get good enough to beat my friends. :)

In the spirit of asking stupid questions:

Where is the 'optimum' tyre temp? I'm pretty sure I cooked my tyres tonight- they were in the top end of the red and car was getting slower and slower. Should I be aiming to keep temp in the black, low red...?? And the tyre on the car performance window turns red at 50%- should I be looking to pit around then or get as much out of the tyre as possible?

Also, I managed to go from 3rd to 12th (last) in the space of a pit stop. Impressive, huh?! I'm not entirely sure why, when other cars around me were on exactly the same tyres and did the exact same pit stop within the next few laps. But it didn't even out so I did something stupid somewhere. Any ideas...... or is that an open ended question!! :)

I appreciate these questions involve a specific race and other cars, but I seem to be pretty good at qualifying and setup- and go backwards at the first pit stop and I can't figure out why. Thoughts, help and random suggestions appreciated.
