You cannot cancel an auction. You just have to hope no one buys him during the window the auction is open (3 hours?)

Unfortunately, as Greg mentions, there is no way to cancel an employee sent to auction.
The auction is indeed timed for 3 hours. The staff member is sent back to the team if there was no interest.
