Driver2 vs Driver1 / "Equal" objectives for prize money

My second driver beat my first driver (under an "equal" contract) and now his objective is to win and my 1st driver for second or better. Shouldn't they at least have the same objective in winning?

its set by their recent performance trend it seems, if you beat your objective it raises or stays the same. if you lose it tends to fall

+ if you sign a new driver... its normally "finish the race" regardless of if your winning championship etc
