Hi, I bought a driver who, with training, is now 7 stars(red), and shown as above my team cap if I click on the stars associated with the driver. What effect or restrictions does this have?

Their gains from training is just dramatically reduced. 3% if 1 lvl higher than your manager level, up to 1% for 3 lvls higher and above.
If you sell them, you cannot buy them back unless your manager level is as high as the driver's level.
Other than that, as long as the driver is with you, you can race him, and extend his contract as much as you want.
