I believe in the old version you could allocate some development towards the next season's car. Even if we could put some small percentage of our spying power towards next season, it might shake things up a bit so we don't get the kind of stale season after season stuff.

Speaking as a player here. Have you forgotten why we got rid of choosing how much focus could go into next season's development? It was done to avoid being really strong one season and then terrible the next. You knew who would be powerful each season and who would be sitting back.
I agree things are getting stale here with car design always beginning at the same progress each season and something needs to be done.

Yeah, I remember it being an issue a while back. I took a couple years off in between the old and the new so I'm probably looking at it through rose tinted glasses here. I do remember it being extreme in the last model. I can't really think of a way to implement it without it being the same situation now that I'm actually thinking about it.
I do however think there should be a way to change how the fresh car for the season is designed. I don't even hate the idea of everyone starting from the same point and spying / design level being the determining factor for how and where a car progresses.

What if you could save points from the last 4-5 races but can only spend half. Then also only allowing these points to be spent on the off-day between seasons?
