In this game, do you drive the races yourself in a live manner? Or does it work like any other manager game out there where you dont play the matches because you manage the team. And that the matches plays itself? Would be really weird if you actually have to drive them yourself, in that case it would be sad since it seems like a nice game.

If you go on the live viewer when the race is running, you can live manage the race in real time. If you want to be competitive in the game, live managing helps a lot. Managing push levels and KERS usage, as well as changing strategy live are some of the things you can do.

Are there no option to turn live manging off? Really unfair and really weird to implement such a feature on a web browser game unless you can turn it off

While your cars will run on their own if you're not live managing (with KERS done automatically, but with no changes to push levels and pre-race strategy), one of the game's main premises is the ability to manage your race tactics live and in real time. It naturally favors those who are able to set aside time and attend the live viewer, as is the case in most of the active and competitive leagues in iGP, since it is one of the main things iGP has set out to do: allow for multiplayer real-time gameplay. It's the distinguishing feature of iGP compared to other racing management games.
There's no option to set live managing off. Even if managers don't attend, the race will go on in real time as scheduled, allowing you to come on at any time when the race is on to live manage. If you are very strong relative to your competition, however, you can win championships without needing to attend most races, but this isn't the case among the very top players unless they all take days off.
It takes a handful of minutes to download the viewer if you go to race when it's live, but after that it should be saved in your browser.
tl;dr: yes, the races play themselves, but you can go on to live manage.
