I don't know if this post is linked to my actual in-game account, but I'm having an issue with the Drew Falcon/Scuderia MBD team Chief Designer. I'm posting this from a separate account to keep the email address I linked with the game clean and tidy.
This new chief designer is a higher level, with on average higher statistics and better performance attributes... But, the car is 50% worse than last season!
What went wrong? I would have expected better. I don't have any tokens to replace her and the car's already slow enough to have me concerned that this whole upcoming season will be very bad... Basically a write-off.
I hope this can be addressed, I don't want to struggle to even get a podium as a result of what I thought was a sure thing.

Your key word there is "new". How new is your CD? How many races was he your CD last season?

She was the CD for maybe four or five races? I finally had the opportunity to improve the car chassis... My team is rapidly expanding and turnover is high. I wish I could actually hire more to work on the car...

The way next season's car is created is on a race-by-race basis, so for example, if I had a 1 star CD for 16 races and a 5 star for the last race, my car for next season would still suck.

First, there's only 3 things that matter with a CD. The star rating, which is the difference between the CDs level and your teams level, and strength and weakness. So if you level faster than you can hire higher level CDs it technically means your CDs are having better and better level and stats but since the level difference still increases your starting cars actually still get worse. But in lower levels attempting to upgrade staff as quickly as you level is quite the token and money trap and the financial downfall for quite some teams. Better to go easy there and build up the foundation of the team like HQ and once the leveling settled down a bit it's the time to get the best staff possible.
As said by Aurorum Panzer if the new CD was active for 4-5 races this CD was only contributing towards (slightly more than) a quarter of the new car. Plus, to make sure since you're talking about expanding, only the one CD set as the active one during a race is doing anything at all.
Don't worry, a bad car is a bad start but not a big problem. Read into the guides by Joey McLaneabove in this subforum and with well placed design points and especially research you're back in business after just a few races.
