Happened to me twice in a row now - my technical director makes the wrong fuel consumption suggestions.
Don't remember the details of the last one, but it forced me to pit like 4 laps before the end of the race.
For this race however - @ Monaco, he suggested 2.2 liters per lap. I followed his suggestion to the point, without hessitation, because I knew I'd be pushing hard, so there will be no room to try lighten my cars. Usually, every single time before, my TDs were quite "jenerous" in their fuel consumtion math, so I was always carrying extra fuel load in the cars in the end. I haven't tried to go around it this time. I set for 3 stopper - 44/44/44/40 liters on Softs. The math suggests that I should be pitting at lap 20/40/60. However, my first pitstop just passed and it was done at lap 18. Meaning that I'll make my next ones at lap 36 and 54. But the final set of 40 liters won't be as good for me to finish the race. With the calcs now re-done, my guys will have to pit in an extra time, at lap 70, where they'll put in an extra 40 liters for the final 8 laps.
I'm not a subscriber, so I can't change anything. Question is - why does my TD making wrong assumptions about the fuel consumption ?

yes as you get higher levels they get better.... or he works it out to hold position.... and on monaco you push hard so use extra fuel

No clue. My TD is only level 7 and he was calculating more fuel usage previously. Just these last two races he's been off.
It's huge difference from 2.2 liters per lap to almost 2.5 liters per lap IMO.

is there any point in having a td if you dont follow what he says?

This is my opinion

'push hard' used X amount more fuel - 'nothing to lose' uses XXX amount more fuel

TD calculates fuel on 'consistency' but probably adds a little if you have a poor driver so you don't run out when he makes a wrong descision.

For my experience I can tell that a higher skilled TD tends to severely underestimate consumption

This.... i actually commented above before i even looked at what my guy says, because i normally ignore him.. [2 examples below that i actually checked]

Think it is a bug that instead of getting closer to ideal fuel as you level up he gets to ideal then moves right past it

at LV7 he recommends at least .1 a lap LESS than i used last season [Abu Dhabi]
at LV8 he recommends almost .4 a lap LESS [Japan]

I never had problems until today when calculating 3 Stints and beeing very just. If my director said 3.7l i calculated 10 laps = 37l for example, this never failed me in the past indepently of pushing hard or risk everthing in strategy as freeuser. Now running m 3rd season and doing it this way since season 1.

Why doesn't it work now? Has anthing beeing patched? If es another huge disadvantage for freeusers :(

Because it would not make sense to employ somebody else, i'm level 6 and the tech director level 6 ( very close to 7 ) as well and he has good value in the graphical ability display compared with what you find usuall on the market ;)

Like i said, until now no tech director ever failed me ;)

im gonna stay with all my stuff until they retire anyway, theres not much associated with doc or cm and td isnt always spot (infact lower lvl tds seem to work better) but chief designer well idc. Ill just keep training them until either they die or retire :P

Afaik you can't train your staff except our employees ( mechanics, designers etc. ) and your Drivers of course. The ability bar for technical directors will stay the same, you can't level them up ;)

As soon i rise one level i look out for stuff of corresponding level, except the drivers.
