I’ve noticed in strategy that the start compound and qualifying compound are the same. 
What if I wanted to qualify using 1 type and using another compound for the race?

Can't be done. The cars will always qualify on the tyres you've chosen for the first stint.

Kevin is correct, the only time you may start on a different tire to what you qualified on is because of rain. I have had where I qualified on dry tires but started the race on wet tires.
