The other day, I decided that I would employ a new driver and replace an existing one. I sent of my offer but, while it was transmitting, the Brazilian Grand Prix stated and the driver I wanted to replace set a qualifying time. Worse still, when I accepted the contract of my new driver, all my setup and stuff was lost.

Could I suggest that there is a limit based on changes to team personal such as no changes within the hour before a race.

Did you know when the race was about to start?

Seems pretty daft to go buying new drivers between Qualifying & the Race. Setup is already locked for a start which means you wouldn't have had a chance to do a new setup on the new driver.

Im fairly new to this game but I would think this should be in place currently. Its not just a simple rookie mistake? A game as such as this should not put things in place to catch people out. It should be user friendly to help with manager retention. It would be like pitting on the final lap of a race. :)

Theres a 12hour[edited lol] period from once the driver accepts your offer, that you can either sign/decline the contract, it makes sense that between qualifying and the race you cannot "change" drivers since the setup/simulator etc has been done for that specific driver.

Although there should perhaps be a warning or have the option to accept disabled during a race event

IMO if your driver has set a qualifying time for a race, he cannot be replaced during that time. This is a rule in every motorsport as far as I am aware.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a set rule in a few series. I think IRL and/or NASCAR has a rule that allows 1 driver to qualify, but they can be replaced for the race (through illness or injury usually), but that the replacing driver starts from the back of the grid.

Case in point, last night's NASCAR race, Allmendinger was suspended for failing a drug test, Penske replaced him with Hornish Jr (who arrived at the track 29 minutes before the race start).

So there are series in the world that allow driver replacement.

In formula one and gp series, the drivers cannot be replaced after qualifying, as result of the latest driver to pull out due to illness, Timo Glock.

But anyways, I wouldn't advise it anyway, as it would mess up that team's setup to a point where they may of jeapordised their race.
