The race times in iGP Manager are set in GMT/UTC and do not change with daylight savings time (DST) adjustments.

Here is why:

  • iGP Manager has an international audience and most managers (even in the same league) don't adjust the clocks at the same time

  • Some time zones actually never make DST changes

  • It would cause far more confusion to move the clocks as soon as they change in one region, when they haven't changed in another, e.g. moving all race times because the clocks changed in the UK would cause total confusion in North America. Why should North American times change when DST hasn't changed there?

To simplify things, we make it clear every time the clocks move that times are specified in GMT/UTC and fixed. This way it is the same for everyone around the world at all times, and easy to keep track of changes.

If your clock moves +1, then your race is +1 on the clock, and if your clock moves -1, then your race is -1 on the clock. League hosts can adjust the schedule in advance if they wish to avoid this.

The only other way to address this is to contact the government and ask them to stop changing the clocks.

Probably this could be the last time we use the DST in Europe. I don't know if that will be good for everybody, but it will be surely good for iGP management :D

In both my leagues the app signed the start time of the race as it was yesterday. The first one is an Asian league so it wasn't a surprise that they had nothing to do with DST.
Than I double checked the other league which I'm hosting. The start time was still 20:00 as it used to be. Than I had to recognize that start time changed. It was also the moment when I saw your announcement. It was posted 2 hours ago. Come on it was the middle of the European afternoon! :D

There is a problem with the new set up that may not have been considered. We race at 23:30 which meant that when I adjusted the time on Saturday, as per instructions, to 00:30, we also moved forward a day. This means that instead of racing tonight (Sun) we now race on Mon, missing a day. This should only happen once a year and I doubt many in our league will be bothered about it, but I've raced with people who, I can imagine, could get quite annoyed by it

Graeme
Can you guys put that in simple terms please as here in Aust we dont understand GMT/UMT etc etc That stuff is to far away for us to worry about!!!

To quote my post above, I tried to put it in the simplest terms possible further into the post:

Jack
If your clock moves +1, then your race is +1 on the clock, and if your clock moves -1, then your race is -1 on the clock. League hosts can adjust the schedule in advance if they wish to avoid this.

Also, if your clocks don't move, then nothing here will affect you so there's nothing to worry about.

Hopefully this is one area where the UK will follow the EU and we won't cling on to the practice after leaving. :P

I'm not sure why your league is now 2 hrs different unless your host moved the time the wrong way, we still race at the same time, the only issue we had was missing a day's racing but that's cos of the time we race, it meant we moved forward a day, but once the hour came off, we were back to our usual time

Maybe last time the host accounted for it and changed the race time to make up for his time switch. So the only change you noticed was your owns time zone going into and leaving DST.

The reason is it's a double time shift. Australia, entering summer, went +1 hour with enabling DST and the host, somewhere on the North, went -1 hour now with disabling DST as they are about to enter winter.

To get technical , the clocks actually change because each solor day isn't exactly 24hrs . Over a period of 1 year there is actually a gain of 1 day per year . Becuase of the tilt of the earth this effects the northern hemisphere more than the southern . The change in the clocks helps to compemsate this because in the winter it wouldnt get light to between 8 and 9 am otherwise . Sorry if this bored you lol

I'm sorry 4kdup nightmare. That is not the reason. This really isn't the forum to explain this but, I'll leave a helpful link if you want to read the actual reason why it is done, and why some countries don't do it at all.

And there was me thinking that it was a quarter of a day a year, hence we insert an extra day... February 29th every four years and call it a Leap Year.

In the UK, putting the clocks an hour forward during the summer months from GMT to British Summer Time (GMT+1) was only introduced in 1916. Surely the earth was tilted before this LOL.
