Regarding tires

Hi,

following an interesting race tonight (http://igpmanager.com/play/?url=race-result/86221#race), where one of the manager went on and tried a 6 stops strategy -yeah 6, you read right-, and almost succeeded (out of fuel, oh the irony), what are other people thoughts on tires? 

I mean I don't blame the guy for trying, his strategy was working pretty well (P2 down to last sector of the last lap where he ran of fuel), but as a F1 fan myself, the idea of somebody making 6 pit stops his just ridiculus, since normally each team has a limited set of each tyre compound to be used per week end, and even before that rule, the idea of anybody making more that 3 or 4 pit stops would have been just ridiculous.

So my suggestion his pretty simple, I think it would improve the "realism" of the game to limit the set of tires one would have per race "week-end".

My 2-cents.

in some cases, 6 stop strategy works wonderously. In others, it does not, 6 stops would suggest soft runnings, of either Level 4 or 5 push for speed, or a tire temperature controlled to  keep grip levels and health high.

Benefits of Lower Push
- Less Fuel Consumed
- Less Health Lost
- Longer Sustained Grip Level

Benefits of High Push
- Depletes excess fuel faster
- Pushes your laptimes faster
- Pushes for more mid-pack fighting.


3 stop vs 4 stop vs 5 stop vs 6 stop.
Less Time in pit <---> Less Fuel Weight

This will greatly different between cars later in Q2 as different component designs will give you more options in relating to how many stints you plan to run.

There are far more variables than just how much fuel and stint strategy to the race strategy. You are only looking at one side of the tires. Most Hard Tires last a good 23 laps in my experience before cliff and eventual puncture, Softs last up to 13 laps most races, they seem to be realistic to me. As for you relating between Tires and Fuel Strategy, I don't understand you :) what you've done here bud is ask this question

Basically you complained about Fuel, but want Tires to be realistic? I don't even.

As for a six stop strategy, this strategy is very common in the Top End of the HoF, and some harsh recommendation for you buddy, Win a race, and not retire 1 out of 7 of each of your races before criticising other player's strategies.

First keep your condescendant tone to yourself, secondly I am not criticising his strategy (quoting myself : "don't blame the guy for trying, was working pretty well" ).

And yes this is a tyre issue at heart, I mention fuel only once. I can do math and understand fully why he chose that strategy and why it might work it some cases, no need to be a genius to understand what one might try to achieve by doing a 6 stop : offseting the time spent in the pit by much faster lap time due to lower fuel and only staying out during the best operating window of the given tyre compound (I figured that out after he stopped 3 times in 12 laps). Good thinking on the guys who had the idea, good for them.

  But the whole and unique reason this strategy is even possible in the first place is because there is no limitation to number of tyre set one can use during a race week end.

All I am suggesting is that in a the real world of Formula One, tires are limited and I just thought that in order to make the game more realistic, IGPManager could think of applying the same logic/rule. If you have ever followed Formula One (or IndyCar for that matter) for the past 10 -or 20- years, you'd know it's just wrong and unrealistic.

No need to get personal and mean, my results have nothing to do with my right to suggest an improvement to the game. 

Personally I would hate to see a limit on tyres. I've also seen guys winning races with 7 stops before.

I think it would take too much out of the game as far as strategy goes. If you start limiting the amount of tyres you're allowed to use you could almost guarantee everyone would run the same strategy.

I think current F1 proves that limiting the number of tyre sets does not impact strategy, and that on the contrary the way each teams use their available set of tires plays a key part in each race. 

After I'm not opposed to unlimited set of tires, just wanted to see if anyone else thought that getting closer to F1 regulation on tires would improve gameplay.

I don't think it would improve gameplay at all to be honest. If anything I think it would make gameplay slower and more boring, and there would be less variation of strategies you could use effectively. I think that would put too much / even more emphasis on design and driver.

Finally, someone with some sense as far as 100% race strategies are concerned.

Six / Seven stops are ridiculous (just ask Lewis Hamilton - he can't even get three good ones!)

i agree its unrealistic but you cant limit pit stops i've been in wet races where drivers have done 6/7 stops most times thats not by choice but thats for another thread

But in real life, wet races see many more pit stops. Thats why I play 50% only because otherwise the strategy is stupid

I think the main reason for people doing this many stops is purely because they've made "heavy" fuel too slow. I mean the difference in pace 10 litres makes in this game is a little ridiculous - You can be looking at 0.8 - 1.0 seconds per lap slower by running 10L more fuel.

One main things that REALLY needs to be addressed is Tyres / Tracks.


Monza and Monaco are the main ones that spring to mind, but there are others that you have 0 chance of running the other compound.

So a re-working with an elite league with the most subscribers who can give feedback to the developers of tyres wear / tyre temps on both compounds for all tracks.

Possibly a way of doing it is a sign up sheet for testing help that is announced by a Private message sent to all members with a subscription.

* Dates and times to be set so the ones who sign up can leave their league for the ammount of time required. (If you can, roll back the teams who help so they are back at what they was before and they can re-join their own league when they wish.)

* If it's possible, the league who are selected to help with this could have the option of 2 races per day, this will get the results quicker.

* Once the changes have been made, the same league or another league checks these results before release.

* This event can be monitored by anyone using the system or knows how the program works to give the feed back to the developers if they don't have the time to attend.

I think i'm with the main ones that the tyres / track and so on need a good over see and they do need to be adjusted now. esp with teams and drivers getting higher in ranks and quicker in speed.

I dont think the softs need to be looked at or how they behave, its the longevity of the tyres need to be look at ie. 100% race softs last a bit longer and hards. But the real issue is that hards are not good enought to use they take too long to heat up imo.

I was a good 3s in the lead comming up to the first pitstop everyone around me went to softs I went to hards and found myself 7-8s behind comming to the next pitstops.

There are a few people saying that there are good stratiges with the tyre setup as it is now but I dont belive there is. Maybe Germany is not a good exapmle.
