Swap button

Hi, sorry but I have another newbie question. I have searched but can’t find the answer but what does the ‘swap’ button mean during the race and how do you use it? I’ve noticed it usually comes up quite near the end of races. Thanks 

 This button is used when you are in a league with two cars to swap pilots during the race
