How much does push level affect your tyre wear?

Hello. Correct push levels decrease the tyre wear. This is very important if you’re using SS tyres, S tyres, or you’re in a long race. After a certain percentage of wear in the tyre the car will be slower. I hoped this helps. And I’m somewhat new so if vets find anything wrong then please add.

What Herp says might be correct in real life but I don't think it translates into the game mechanics.

Speaking from experience push level has an effect on tyre temperature but I have no evidence that it does anything to alter tyre wear. If PL does influence tyre wear then the effect is imperceptable. I say this because I take note of tyre wear and see very little difference from season to season on any one circuit even though ambient temperature changes mean that I am operating the cars with significantly different push levels.

What I do find is that PL has more of an effect on fuel consumption, and if like me you try to run with bare minimum fuel load it is easy to get it wrong. If it's colder than previous seasons you are likely to push harder so need to be careful you have enough fuel to complete the race.

If you keep the temperature close to the circle during the race then you will see the amount of tyre wear decrease. I also try to have as much fuel as I can so I can change PL during the race.

I have recorded a lot of race data and my response to Ege's question was based on analysis of this data and many years experience of managing races. You said in your post that you are somewhat new to the game (account created 14th Dec, 17 races in Rookie tier) and asked for experienced managers to add if anything was wrong... So that's what I did :-)

The game is great, I hope you have fun discovering all of the little things that can help you become a competitive Elite tier manager.

No offence taken and no apologies needed. You may be right but as I said, any correlation between PL and tyre wear (if it exists) is so small that I can't detect it from my data. If iGP gave us decimal points on tyre wear (the same as fuel consumption) it would help answer the question.

When I go into the race the tyre wear does show decimal points. It might be a difference between mobile and computer. But that’s my guess.

Kevin, do you use the Igp calculator to help you determine how many laps a tyre can go? 

And as far as tyre ware, at least in my races it stays constant on the 1st half of usage and it decreases as it gets closer to being replaced.

I would think that the less rubber left on the tyre, the less to ware down.  I would think that's the norm. isn't it? Hopefully that makes sense...

I use my own calculator to predict tyre wear for the race. It's not 100% accurate because as I said above the practice lap tyre wear is not reported to a decimal. There is a significant difference between 8.1% and 8.9% in terms of the number of laps you can get out of a set of tyres but if they're both reported as 8% you can't predict the wear rate accurately. That being said, it's close enough, when I compare post race results with pre-race predictions they're usually not a million miles out.

Idk Kevin, 3-4 laps diff can be deal maker or breaker... 
I see what you mean though. 
That would explain why sometimes I have about half of tyre left at the time of pitting in. 

Your 1s example is simple and easy to follow and tells a solid prediction, even if it isn't perfect.

@kevin does game use only the whole number and not round it to nearest whole number

Not being a programmer I don't know for certain. But comparing pre-race predictions based on practice laps with post-race lap by lap data suggests the game uses decimals but reports practice laps in whole numbers. I could well be wrong, if anyone knows for sure please let me know... 
Hint for Jack or one of the iGP devs to spill the beans LOL.

Edit. Plus, my calculation is simple and as originally posted, I can't categorically state that PL has no effect or there aren't other factors influencing tyre wear. It's a pretty good approximation though.

I would take it that they use decimals because if you watch tyre wear live during race that goes to decimals so after 1st set you can adjust laps depending if high or low for following sets

Yes, the game seems to use decimal places, although generally I notice that wear is usually a bit higher than the predictions using the rounded number provided for me. I assume that's connected with my style of racing as I tend to stress those tyres during a race. I haven't noticed much effect of Push Level on the tyre wear but temperature, especially overheating, has a quite noticeable effect.

Btw. if you want to calculate the projected wear after a number of laps but don't want to use a table you can get the result by calculating ((1-[tyre wear])^[number of laps])*100. So for 12% it's 1-12%=0.88 and for 8 laps 0.88^8 is 0.3596 or roughly 36% remaining.
