Good afternoon,
I open this thread because I do not know if there will be people who will have the same thing happen to me. I have been at iGP for many seasons and lately, it has happened to me in several of them that I received one point less in all areas of the car at the beginning of the season. I usually do research with 2 or 3 Design Managers (JD from now on) to achieve the most competitive car at the beginning of the next season.
I usually investigate 6 races with one JD, 6 races with another JD with different strength and the last 5 with a different one. This being so, I should achieve 50 points in the strengths in which the corresponding JDs have investigated 6 races and 49 points in the area in which I have used my JD during 5 races. In areas where my JD has no strength or weakness, I should acquire 43 points and 21 points should I get in the area in which my JD has weakness.
This has always been the case, but I've been around for 3 seasons now and I start with one point less in all the areas where my JD has neither strength nor weakness, that is, I get 42 points in those areas instead of the 43 that I should get. If something has changed or you know how to give me an answer, I would appreciate it.

Hi Osgano,
In order to get the maximum starting points, your 3 active chief designers and your technical director need to be at least 4.5 stars throughout the whole season. Is this the case for you?

Hi Gert,
First of all, thanks for your quick response.
And yes, my chief designers and my technical director are always level 4.5 or higher. That's the reason why I ask.
Thank you.

However did you level? The thing is that actually the rating should be 5 stars for the full result, but for some reason the best (same level) staff is still rated at 4.5 stars most of the time at higher levels. Now your current CD is level 16 while your account is level 17 and thus the star rating is real 4.5 stars and thus the results should be slightly lower than same level staff.

So, if I use a JD level 17 (5 stars) I will get the maximum points currently, but the moment I go up to level 18 and my JD is level 17 (4.5 stars will be) I will get less points. Is it right?
Thank you.

There are cases when a level lower CD with 4.5 stars still works at full performance, so it's likely to loose points after leveling but not certain. What's certain, at least I haven't encountered anything to the contrary, is that same level Designers will provide maximum points. It somewhat looks like as level is a kind of rounded number thing, some people see same level staff as 5 stars, some see them as 4.5 stars and for others again it's mixed and the line between a CD maxing out and one loosing that design point is a bit of a moving target. This makes all of this a bit complicated, especially if trying to write a guide which has to be short enough that people actually bother to read it. Anyway, often enough finding those good designers to hire is the hardest part and maximising the car remains wishful theory. ;-)

According to your answer, I understand that you are not completely sure about the reason why what I am explaining happens. There has to be a clear guide on how this works and I would like to read it because I am interested in knowing how the car research works. I waste a lot of time looking for JD and DT to achieve the best car in the following seasons. I hope this can be clarified.

To be perfectly sure would need the exact values and code and even then there'd be room for error but I'm confident about the reason, else I wouldn't have posted (also forgot to remove the Mod marks from my posts). What I indeed failed to address is that I have no means to figure out which one, or how many, of your CDs dropped one notch below maximum. About the guide I'm afraid that, given the expertise you show in your post, you're either likely to know Kevins posts about the topic or wouldn't find anything new in them and I don't know any guide going deeper than that. There's just experience applying that knowledge.

I have found that CDs at the same level as the manager may display as 4.5 star (this is the majority) or 5 star (rarely) and will always yield the maximum design points of 43 per standard attribute. CDs that are one level lower than the manager will always be displayed as 4.5 star (never 5) but will only yield 42 points per standard attribute.
So if you have 3 CDs all 4.5 star at the same level as the manager you will receive maximum design but if you level up then each standard attribute (no strength or weakness) will only receive 42 and likewise your strengths and weaknesses also suffer.
I have always found this to be the case.

@ Kevin i am level 14 but in market i got a level 15 CD who is showing up as 5 star (yellow) for me does that mean he is a 4 1/2 star when i reach level 15 and what maximum should i expect in design points
Kevin Taylor medal 5000 5 years 324 days ago
Ken, you lucky person LOL. The answer to your question is I've never been fortunate enough to employ a staff member higher than my level so I can't give you a definitive answer.
At a guess I would expect you to receive Max points at the moment at 5 star and also max when you level up although the star rating will probably drop to 4.5.
Appreciate it if you would feed back after you level up to let us know.

Yes, I'd also like to know how that one works out. Especially if that's a case of same level staff underperforming as I never encountered or heard about one doing that. Unlike Kevin I had a CD surprising me by overperforming though and after I leveled, in tandem with a new same level CD, still resulted in a perfect 43 result. Still, even though those seem to be a bit more common than those extremely rare ones you can hire even though they are a level higher it's a save bet to assume that a CD will produce a 42 result with a level lower than the team.
