A guy in my league seems to think its cheating but me and another team believe it doesnt really make any difference as the games designed to be equal regardless of coin or tokens
No, to each their own. If the game doesn't make money it can't develope maybe even not exist. So by that rationale not buying tokens, (at least once) is cheating everyone else.
Is buying tokens cheating? In my opinion most definitely not.
In the previous version of the game (before August 2016), to use the race viewer you had to subscribe at a cost of £1.99 per month or £19.99 per year. If you didn't subscribe, your view of the race was the timing screen, similar to the one in the top right hand corner of the current PC viewer. As you can imagine it was just about impossible to properly manage the race just looking at a timing screen so if you wanted any chance at all of winning a championship it cost you real money. Was that cheating? No.
With the arrival of the new version of the game the race viewer became available to all at no cost. The income for the devs and the money to support the infrastructure is now tokens, buying these is no different to subscribing in the old game.
In the old game you HAD to subscribe to be competitive, in this game there are a few top managers who have never purchased any tokens. It might take a little longer to get your team up to speed but it is possible to be successful without spending real money.
Never spent money on tokens and never will. For me patience is part of the game and spending money on it for me spoils it besides once you get to level 20 and maxed everything out in the HQ there isn't much left to do to improve so all you are doing is getting there faster for a few months. I've played for almost a year and I expect when I reach level 20 I'll get bored and stop playing. I don't know, enjoy the journey. But I don't have a problem with people who do buy tokens it's one less chocolate they can buy that's all! Cheating...nah!
It's a valid strategy and a valid option which is available to all players, if certain players want to purchase tokens to get competitive or gain an advantage then that's the strategy they are choosing. If others don't want to spend money to buy tokens then that's the strategy they are choosing, no one is stopping them from making tokens purchase either. Is it cheating? Definitely Not. Can you match them? Can you get better results then them? That depends on your managerial skills and choices you make.
