Set cars up for tomorrow's race

What happened instead?
got 0.00.00 time, 0.00 fuel used and 100% tyres used.

Yup - got three wasted practise laps

Those values show up if the connection times out. The reasons can be manifold, own connection, your ISP, somewhere on the backbone between your ISP and the servers or the server. Giving the timing I'd suspect the latter as the servers suffered from some overload issues that should be fixed already, but please report back if it's an ongoing issue.
