I've heard that drivers can have hidden talents, making them better at certain times. Would like to know if this is true

Hi James.

This has been discussed many times over the last couple of years by those who play the game. Hidden attributes is one of a few theories that have been put forward to explain why some drivers always perform better than others even when all of their statistics are equal. Another plausible theory is that although driver attributes are displayed as whole numbers, maybe in the background the important non-trainable "Talent" attribute is possibly a decimal and a displayed value of 20 could mean anything between 19.1 and 20.0.

A while back I had a driver who was unbeatable. I changed his team mate, he went from being displayed as the right hand of the two drivers to the left hand side and suddenly he couldn't win anything. The following season I kept the same driver line up but swapped the drivers side of the garage and he was drivers champion again. Coincidence??

TBH the only people who know what makes one driver better than another with absolute certainty are the guys who coded the game and understandably they're not telling. Anything anyone else says is speculation.

Not sure if it's his factual and honest sounding tonality or simply because it all(as I like to call it) adds up. I know I've been the recipient of his help directly and indirectly, as is the case in this thread.

I'm certain that developers will do well in making him a liaison. As to why that's not the case yet is beyond me. or maybe.......

Thank you both for your kind words.

@Hamlet. What did you mean by "maybe......"? Honestly, I'm just a player of the game exactly the same as you guys, I have no official capacity in the iGP team other than volunteering as a moderator.

Most of what I post here is from observation and experience. I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the game and for this reason I rarely use my moderator account when offering advice because to do so would lead people to believe that my posts are in some way "official" and endorsed by iGP.

About the coincidence of the garage side mentioned, I wondered once why my second driver, which at the time was technically slightly worse by a tenth of a second, happened to come out on top so relatively often in the race. Thinking those races through the best explanation I concluded with was that I often went rather borderline in stretching out the stints. Now one driver has to pit one lap earlier in the first stint, which is about always the 2nd driver as I give the better one the heavier car to make it easier to keep them together if necessary, and to make the first pitting car reach my intended number of laps I relatively often went one lap too far for the number one driver and thus I tended to give the number 2 the better strategy overall.

What if a Drivers hidden talent was knitting , or painting portraits?

Good grief, a new manager and I think he's cracked it. All these years playing iGP and it never occurred to me during contract negotiations to quiz a prospective driver on his knitting skills. But now you mention it, it occurs to me that my most competitive drivers always have the best reindeer jumpers at the Christmas party... Mystery solved 🤣🤣🤣

There to me ckear hidden talents, it may simply be that each driver has fave tracks where they are faster but having had 2 drivers who are identical in weight, age, and all stats its clear there are hidden talents or hidden attributes.

I have 1 driver who prefers his set up with lower ride height, but why, there is no driver personality trait nor a trIt or anything trainable to make thjs driver prefer lower ride height, so there must indeed be hidden attributes or each driver at the same weight, age and skill would be equal.

Hi Dan.

There is a reason why one of your drivers prefers lower ride height and it's not hidden. I would put money on it being Walker.

Chaz, maybe he does drink on race days but he doesn't want you to know about it

Other gp manager game i played years back had defined traits for drivers. One of which was 'former criminal' (or similar) "keep an eye on him or you'll find your laptop missing" something like that. Most figured that you would find a small amount of money missing every so often having that driver, and being that they were generally quick drivers i said it may because they 'drive it like it's stolen'.

But for sure these drivers seem to go back and forth depending on something, one will win a championship (drivers) or two, and then the following season it's the other driver stealing the spotlight,  but what i have noticed most of all is that the driver i have set the heavier fuel load for seems to out qualify the other one.
