It'd be nice to see tire temperature data when running practice sessions, that way you know whether you'll be too hot, too cold, or just right. As it stands, tire strategy is mostly based on wear, and even though your Softs can last 9+ laps on many tracks, sometimes it's impossible to get them up to temp. The current guide of cold/cool/warm/hot really doesn't cut it. I've had drivers win on mediums when everyone else was running softs because it was too hot for the soft compound.

You'll find those variables vary on individual leagues characteristics such as race speed and duration.
Softs are the new go-to tire right now. SS get you positioning at the start. Imo, you can get away by using SS in most races when you have a full 5 star car compatibility.

You're correct when you say it depends on league characteristics, race duration etc. Soft are not the go-to tyre in our league (The MJL). It's 50% race distance and the only compound that doesn't get used during a season is the previous "magic compound"... Hards.
As I've posted a number of times, IMO to really mix things up the ambient temperature needs to have a much bigger influence on tyre temperature, wear and grip. This would result in different optimum strategies depending on track temperature. Currently the ambient temperature appears to have very little effect on lap times or tyre wear. In Elite tiers where most teams are more or less equal, once the optimum strategy for a circuit has been found it doesn't really change. I honestly believe this would give much more variability than tweaking the tyres.
To bring it back on topic, if this were to be implemented, I agree with Tucker, we would need to understand tyre temperatures during practice runs.

I wrote this before but i think one practice run should have 3 laps min for Tire temp and get average lap time

It's funny you should mention Hards being the previous "magic compound", cause i'm about to run hards for the first time ever in Abu Dhabi. But even though it's hot at the track, i'm still worried they won't get up to temp.

Not really. We're all beginners, and half the league is inactive...
I was looking at 9 laps on softs, 18 laps on hard. Either that or 13/14 on mediums. It's the last race of the season, and my 2 drivers are tied, lol. The other one is running 2 pits, all soft compound. No matter what, my drivers will finish this first season 1st and 2nd.

It was only about 26°C at the track, so they were running on the cold side, but not terrible. Definitely lacking in pace, though. My drivers finished 1-2 with the winner using a 2 pit strategy on soft tires, and 2nd place was only a single pit, soft then hard. I don't actually know what PL stands for...

Guys i run today Soft-Hard-Hard in Singapore with 34 celsius. Soft fastest lap 1:38 Hard 1:35,4... my point is that Hard IS NOT a useless tyre at all, works fine in hot temperatures

I tend to default to high, and adjust during the race.
