Question about Stints vs. Pit Stops.

Ran my first race yesterday with following pre-race strategy on the next race configuration screen - 3 stints with 37L and soft tires for each.

I interpreted the pre-race strategy as being:

start-stint 1 using 37L and softs (qual using same softs)
pit stop to put in 37L and softs
stint 2
pit stop to put in 37L and softs
stint 3 to finish

My race resulted in the following:

start-stint 1 using 37L and softs (qual using same softs)
pit stop to put in 37L and softs
stint 2
pit stop to put in 37L and softs
stint 3
pit stop to put in 37L and softs
stint 4 to finish

I ended up with 3 pit stops instead of my expected 2.  So if I change my intrepretation to match what I saw in race, then the start of the race isn't stint 1, but then this doesn't work with how to select your starting tire/fuel combo.  Help would be appreciated to interpret this correctly.

Thanks

Hi there john im very new at this myself but i did something similar. Basically stint one is what fuel lvl u start the race with (not a pitstop) stint 2 is ur first pitstop. So basically whatever pit stop stratagy you are going to use you will always have 1 more stint for example a one stop in race will require 2 stints a 3 stop in race will require 4 stints. Just remember first stint is ur fuel lvl you are starting the race with. Hope i explained that clear enough PM me if u have further questions regarding this. Cheers oh and to add to that u probably had to do another pit because u were going to run out of fuel. Which could imply that 37litres was not enough for ur last stint. So maybe checking your fuel usage per lap would give you a clearer indication

I'm a little unsure what you are asking exactly.

Qualifying uses different tyres to the race. Whatever you select in your first stint is the compound used in qualifying, but not the same tyres. You always start the race with 100% rubber.

As for the fueling, you were just fueled a lap short.

Guys;

Thanks for quick response.

Looks like I just didn't have that last lap with enough fuel so driver pitted to get it.  And my original interpretion of stints is correct.

Thanks

John< what you are thinking is correct. So you should have done 3 stints (2 pit stops) assuming you had the right amount of fuel. But if you ended up doing 4 stints (3 pit stops) then you did not have enough fuel to finish the race. When you dont have enough fuel and another stop is required, but non called for, the stategy starts from the top. So your first stint was 37L with softs, and it added that.

It takes a while to get the fuel loads correct, and you tech director is sometimes off by quite a bit.

Actually it doesn't Vincent. If you do any extra stops it just copies the last stint in your box. Thus, for him, it copied his third stint.
