What is an optimal wet weather push setting?

I usually attempt to keep my tires at light red, yet I see people with cherry red tires flying past my drivers.

Keep in mind that we are on identical strategies, I have higher design %, and a well trained driver ( I am not a scrub), yet these guys are flying right past me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There is no one setting. Every track is different. Some tracks 1/5 will overheat and some tracks 4/5 barely reaches temp.

No I am aware that the setting is different.  

What I am frustrated about is how having cherry red tires is faster then having slightly red conserved tires in the rain. It seems like there is no punishment for going 5/5 in the rain

This isn't always the case. I've won wet races in past where bright red tires were faster only for short periods. Holding the tires at pink/slightly red is almost always quicker over a stint than bright red in my experience. If you hold proper temperature, you'll probably lose time for a bit, but then your opponents will hit the cliff and you'll make up all the time you lost and then some.

I'll second this. I've seen drivers (generally ones who aren't present) who have the maximum push setting start off brilliantly, but as soon as their tires turn bright red it's just a matter of time. It usually takes about a lap or a lap and a half, but by that point their pace drops and they're losing whole seconds per lap. It's like James said. There's a cliff, and eventually they'll hit it.

It depends on the wetness.. If the track is 100% wet then 5/5 will stay fast for quite a while, even with glowing tyres. It's definitely punishing though. Like softs, grey / lightish pink is the best.

Most of your problems will be driver I would imagine. A driver with 19 wet opposed to a driver with say 10 wet will severely dominate them. The wet stat is crucial in the rain - Even the difference between 15 and 19 is up to a second a lap.

I agree with everything Jason says. I would add just 1 more thing though....

Setup is also of great importance in the wet; more so than in the dry. So you need a driver with high feedback in order to maximise the wet settings.

I agree with the setup comment, it's more important than anything, but I disagree with the feedback comment. Mansell has poor feedback ;)

I have the same question than Craig.
This evening, there was rain in China after the mid-race. Some competitors change their tyres with full wet tyres, and these became bright red in only 1 lap ! That is crazy for me. The full wet tyres under rain with 5°C cannot heat a lot faster than soft tyres on dry track !

But I ask me also, how drivers can make the same times than with soft or hard tyres on the dry. Some drivers have improved their sectors and best lap time under rain, while the race was dry during more than half-time...

The wet tires are designed to work at a lower temperature than the Soft and Hard tires. If there's not enough water on the track, the Wets will overheat (they need to run through water to stay cool). Perhaps in your race Intermediates would have been a better choice (which is rare, but it can happen).

Hi James,

Perhaps your explanation is good for warming up of tyre.

But, there is always a point on the real performance of full wet tyres. It does not sound good for me that they run almost as faster than soft tyres as you can see below :
