Is there a way to stop a driver deciding to pit of their own volition other than staring at the pit button and stopping him/her when he/she decides to? I just lost a race because my driver who was 1 lap from winning decided to pit for ... I\'m not sure what.. a cup of tea maybe?

Yeah, If fuel is very close maybe he doesn\'t want to take the risk.
The same thing happened to me in my last race, Didn\'t cost me the win but Raised my eyebrow wondering why he\'s pitting with 1 lap of fuel still in the tank.
His consumption was 3.9 and had 5L left but correctly he maybe had 4.5ish.
.5 is very close and i don\'t know at what lvl the engine sputters if it does at all in iGP.
If that stuff is coded in then yeah, sputtering down pitlane isn\'t worth it.

Well, I was able to finish a race with just 0.4l left. Though there might already have been changes to the final behaviour, as I complained about my driver \'saying\' he would pit in the penultimate lap which was then reverted when the raceleader started his final lap... and he then ran out of fuel.See here for the explanation from Andrew.http://igpmanager.com/play/?url=forum-thread/136#1148

So in the worst case I was responsible for your loss AND inhibited the win, Leon. Sorry! ;-)

Well I don\'t mind \"taking one for the team\" if it leads to a better iGP.

I\'m going to add a more obvious notification and override control when your driver intends to pit.  But at the moment, yes, you will need to keep the pit strategy window open to keep an eye on what the driver is doing.

I got screwed by the pits in todays race. I had a certain 2nd place and a good shot at passing on the last lap. At least 0.2l would have been left after the race. But no, my driver decided she didn\'t have enough and went in to take 40l for one lap.

The driver should not have any say as to when he/she will pit. If the driver says the tires are crap, then yes, go to pits if you must but clearly inform me first. But if she says she is afraid of running out of fuel then it is my job to say \"No! You stay out and run out of fuel or crash the car but you will not pit!\"

I\'m the engineer/team owner or a god as far as the driver is concerned and I will say what to do.

had to vent..

@ Likka - I think the developers are working on this at the moment so that this does not happen.

Wouldn\'t a good simulation factor be that some drivers, perhaps those of greater standing or experience, will ignore your \"God Orders\" and pit if they think you\'re wrong and \"to hell with the consequences\"?

We want to add features like that and factor in the \"teamwork\" attribute in future patches. There needs to be a clear way to communicate this through the interface though, i.e. radio messages coming back from the driver. So first we need to implement the interface elements for it, which isn\'t a small task, then we can begin adding nice little features like that.

I\'m sure you have a long list of things that you want to add but a whole heap of intermediate steps to get there and, of course, a constant stream of unanticipated interruptions to your development time. I guess it\'s like choosing whether to design car components for this season or next - head vs heart.

What we have right now is cool and as you get round to introducing new stuff, even better. Thanks so much for this awesome creation.  :)

There are still some problems with how/when the drivers decide to pit of their own volition.  And yes, we\'d definitely like several other factors to have an effect on the driver\'s decision about whether or not to pit as James suggests.  I just want to point out to Iikka in particular that you can cancel a driver\'s decision to pit by deselecting the \"PITTING\" button in the Pit Strategy window.  As I mentioned earlier though, you would need to keep the window open to keep an eye on what your driver is doing.  I\'ll be improving the notification and ways in which you can override the driver\'s decisions soon.

Thanks for the reply :)

It was just so unexpected. A hungry driver on a last lap fight for the lead would not have come to pits. Never ever. If he was afraid of running out he would have asked on the radio from the guys with all the data. If he still insisted on being an ass, he would have went to a fuel conservation mode to secure that second position. Or rather he would have been told to do so. There\'s no way he would have pitted.

But yes this is all settled now. I\'ll just keep the strategy window open at all times to see what that malfunction piece called human tries to do. :)
