McLaren have rebounded recently, establishing themselves at the head of the midfield - but would they be even better off with a factory Honda engine that has now won a race in a Red Bull?
Or did they make the right call by ending their toxic partnership?

Alonso definitely slowed the project down with his not so nice comments about the engine, I think it would have worked better without alonso

A agree Alonso didn't help, but Honda definitely exaggerated expectations way to high year after year. It was never going to end well. As you say both Honda and McLaren are doing better since they parted ways. I think some partnerships just don't work and this was one of those.

McLaren just used Honda's engine as a disguise for their poor package back then. Now both are doing just fine

I'm a bit late to this, but my view is no ....
You spent 3-4 years of pain ... to give honda time to improve .... then give that improvement to another team!
Honda has powered Red bull to two victories this year .... Imagine what McLaren might of been able to do there.
The current big 3 are all works teams ... so makes you suspect McLaren balked a little too early under pressure.
