I've just done the same - if you host has been inactive for a specific amount of time you can click on league info and take charge.

Hi Josh,
You need to have completed a minimum number of races in a league before you can take control. I believe this is 20 races.

I tried that and yes I have all the criteria. But I joined another leauge. Thanks.
