I have an upcoming race in Bahrain, Dry, ~35°C, 28 laps.
Will I be able to run softs in that heat without overheating the tyres? I had 29°C in China and had to switch between PL 1 and 2 to keep the softs a in good working temperature.
I am fancying a one stopper on Mediums which tyre wear should be about 48% after each 14 lap stint. I'll need 35.7 litres of fuel for that for PL 3. (I am guessing PL 2-3 would be optimal). In total about 70-72L of fuel for the race or 2.5-2.57 L per lap.
If I run a 2 stopper on softs, I can do 8/10/10 laps and ending the stints with 43% wear and 70L total race fuel ( 2.5L/lap)
So average fuel will be the same, but looking at other races It can be difficult to keep up with the cars in front if you are a tad heavy (Add to that that I am not the fastest car in the league).
The laptimes are about 3-4 tenths slower on mediums (on equal push, so I guess 2-3 tenths during the race.) 0.3s x 28 = 8.4s slower on mediums but I will save 18s for for one less pitstop.
I also calculated Soft 11 laps 39% wear and medium 17 laps 43% wear. but that nets about the same as going M/M and I am afraid about overheating the softs. (though I think qualifing is important here due to dirty air, not sure)
Is my logic solid here? for running a 1 stop on mediums?
I understand everyone have their own super secret special strategies and calculations, but ANY input from someone experienced would me much helpful!
Cheers!
