You've been playing this game as long as me so you know all about when and where to assign your HQ generated DP and how best to incorporate this into your research strategy. I doubt very much if you'll be relegated but you're unlikely to be competing for the championship this season.

The rules for changing league were revamped just over a year ago, below is a link to Jack's announcement. Very little has changed in terms of dp allocation. The ideal time to join a league is during the inter-season break because you receive maximum design assuming your current active CD has been designing the car for the past 17 races.

The 8 points per attribute is what your active CD would have generated in two races. You should also get 3 points per race for you to assign wherever you want. I agree it's going to mean you're uncompetitive this season but you'll survive.

Yes it's a pain, especially for those joining a league part way through the season for genuine reasons but it was introduced to prevent league hoppers from bossing leagues for a few races and then moving on. There is nothing more frustrating than a highly competitive team joining a league towards the end of the season and interfering with a championship battle between the established teams.

The current rules encourage teams to join a league during the break between seasons because they'll be competitive for the entire season.
