The overcut is just way too strong. The other day in my race, i pitted like 3 laps earlier (at Turkey) and my opponent and I both went from softs to softs. He gained like a second and a bit on me. Im pretty sure its because I had more fuel on board for 3 laps than him. But the problem is that the new tires didnt do anything, which is the opposite of real life. The effect of fuel on board needs nerfing so that new tires can be useful.

When refueling was a thing in f1 overcut was always good. Undercut can work too if you push

It's only the opposite of real life because today's F1 rules don't allow refuelling. The undercut works in real F1 because the car on new tyres is roughly the same weight as the car on old tyres meaning the tyres are the determining factor.
The rules in iGP do allow refuelling so the undercut only works if the car that stays out longer takes the tyres well below the minimum wear limit to a point where lap times suffer.

Undercut/Overcut, really, whats the difference? If you hang yourself out there too long to try and use the overcut you might very well over use your tyres and not gain the advantage you hoped.

And the end of the day its the same principle, trying to create a tactic that balances tyres wear/fuel weight etc.

You'd assume that the driver that pitted later had more fuel at the start, so would have had slower lap times at the start of the stint. The deficit could be made up using boost.

Hi Andrew. You are correct that higher weight usually leads to slower lap times for the first few laps but providing the cars are fast enough to remain in the DRS train without burning all their boost the overcut can be effective.
It also often means that towards the end of the race the team that pulled off the overcut are on fresher/faster tyres.
Of course, there is a limit, in my experience running the cars too long means their tyres are shot so any gain you make by running lighter at the end of the stint is negated by loss of lap time from degraded tyres.
There is usually an optimum strategy and after a couple of seasons in a well attended competitive league almost everyone uses a similar strategy, very rarely is a different strategy successful.

Undercut: Tactic where the driver 1 pits (usually 1 lap) BEFORE than driver 2 in order to get ahead of the driver 2 when he/she goes to the pit lane...

Overcut: Viceversa to Undercut, when driver 1 overtakes driver 2 when (driver 1) pits (usually 1 or 2 laps) AFTER driver 2 does his/her pit stop...

Hi Gerard,

Thanks, I think you missed something in translation, I am fully aware of what they are.

My point was that the OP was complaining about the Overcut, the alternative is the Undercut, but really there is no difference. I should be more careful about how I phrase things.

@David: your opponent had fuel for 3 more laps than you and your opponent was able to stay in striking distance. That makes me think he was quicker anyway. When u hit the parking lot, he finally had the fast lane for himself.
