I think it would be cool in some future iteration of the game to be able to watch the qualifying in the viewer. You wouldn't necessarily have to have only one car out on the track at a time, you could do a rally sort of start where each car is staggared and the order is the inverse order of the points tally for each driver, so the leading driver qualifies last. I think it could be fun to watch and add another level to the immersion with the game while not adding much, if any time, to what it takes to do a race. Could be nailbiting to watch your driver to his or her lap hoping they can pull something out of the bag!

Also with qualifying I'd love to see the option to choose not to set a qualifying time. That way in cases where there is a clear out and out best car in the field, folks can look for a challenge by seeing just how far up the field they can get, still with a proper set up, from the back. Maybe even make it an achievement like "Worst to First". It's hardly in keeping with realism per se but I think it could be fun. Thoughts?

Thanks for putting some thought into ways the game might be improved.  I too will be interested in finding out what others think.  I have a feeling the ability to re-live the actual race will be on a list somewhere but it will not be implimented for some time.  I am not sure about seeing a qualifying race though - as I think it is just a number crunching excercise atm.

I too think that was really cool to implement. Seeing 1 car after another making their qualification lap, beating or not, the previous sector time, and lap time, would be great.
Of course, in leagues with many cars, as some laps go to 1m30s or more, it was necessary to lock the system at least a hour before the race so that all could make their lap (an alternative option is: if the cars start their qualify with 15s apart from each other that would save some time - just like cycling against the clock stages).

Worked like that it would be time consuming and uninteresting.
Why not just watch the single lap that your driver does but have the split times of other drivers. If you have 2 cars both cars can be shown in the same image but are not effected by each others presence. That way your not watching 30 drivers one after another that arn't actually racing each other do laps.

Or make a Q1, Q2 and Q3 just like in formula1, with the same timers, or 75%, 50% 25% (depending on the length of races of each league)

One lap qualifying is fine - if you do a 25% race, you don't want your quali to be longer than the race itself.
Livetiming would be nice though, but I don't mind the current situation.

Well assuming the busiest case scenario, where there are 32 unique cars on the grid I don't think it would be all that long of a process if you did a staggered start. Imagine for example that each car left 10 seconds after the one before it. With 32 cars that means that the last driver is starting their qualifying lap 5 min after the first car and only goes the length of one lap, so less then 2 min usually. All told the whole thing if you chose to watch it would only take 7 min at the most. That's 2 minutes longer then the current qualifying setup but at least this time you got to watch something.

I understand that not everyone would be entertained watching other cars do laps but I would enjoy seeing the different cars going and seeing the lap times come down and anticipating pole position much like an actual F1 qualifying session - and I don't think that I'm alone. And if people find that idea boring they could still do what the system is now and not watch anything just log into the viewer when it's time to actually race.
