As the title suggests, the ability to create a league &  lock the tiers above Rookie Only rather than just locking the entire league structure. This would mean that progression into the tiers of those leagues would need to be done via promotion through the ranks or at the league owners discretion through invites etc.

The main reason for suggesting this being to promote closer racing between teams who have developed together over the course of multiple seasons as well as increasing the community aspect of leagues as teams who have fought together in the various tiers in recent seasons would have formed rivalries/relationships with teams as they have progressed.

This could hopefully help to create closer communities of managers who feel a sense of achievement at reaching Elite by progressing through the various tiers of a competitive league structure rather than just joining a relatively inactive league & gaining promotion via default.

Whilst the pros & cons of such a system would need to be considered, this is something that shouldn’t be too difficult to implement?

I suppose some leagues could have a system like this if it was simple enough to impliment.  I would be interested in what others think too.  I have a feeling it might be abused (ie "I don't like that guy so he isn't getting into our pro tier" etc)  but  then again it might make for more friendly and sustainable racing leagues.

I don't like it.

You'd get into the weird situation where you could win the Rookie tier (with 8 teams or more) and not be promoted. That guy would than dominate the next season as well, at the cost of gameplay.

Just lock your league, or don't lock it. I don't see how or why you would want to half-lock it.

Sorry Jaap, how would that situation occur?

If a team wins the league & gains promotion, then they would get promoted...I'm not trying to stop people progressing through the league system, quite the oppoosite.

If anything this should mitigate those situations where teams vastly more experienced/levelled join the league & dominate due to Driver/Kers/DRS advantages. You are still going to have the odd 'Reset' team joining in Rookie with those advantages I guess but that wasn't my main reason for suggesting it.

This would (hopefully) ensure that everyone progresses through the league structure at roughly the same pace & would result in much closer racing with teams who you have built up relationships with & hopefully add a bit of Prestige/Sense of Achievement in reaching Elite by going through the tiers of a single championship...As it is I could rank up to Elite in a relatively inactive league (there are plenty out there sadly) & then wait for a spot to open up in the highest Rep League & join straight in the Elite Tier. Sure that's probably suicide but I think it devalues the League somewhat.

This could also lead to all sorts of things (inter championship tournaments etc but I don't want to go off on a tangent).

Please let me know if I've missed your point entirely....

Sorry for the double post but I’ve already written  an essay above & edited it a couple of times…

In response to:

The reason for this is so that the league owner doesn’t need to know (up to) 96 people in order to fill the league spaces. This way, teams can join through Rookie themselves & the league owner would just need to manage Pro & Elite which would mainly be fed by the Rookie Tier.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear originally
