Other than spending real money, is there any way to acquire tokens?

Your Main Sponsor will generate tokens (1 or 2 or 3 per race) depending on the sponsor.

So then, that is the only way to get tokens without spending real money. 
You might want to think about creating  an additional way, or some of us will be at a great disadvantage. No fun in that.

If you race every day, and choose a sponsor that gives you 3 tokens every race, that is 21 tokens/week which should be enough to run a good team. Buying with real money is an option for those who need more, but 21 tokens/week should suffice.

Yes, so far 3 token per race was always enough to cover the daily needs of my teams, both the one back then in a daily league and now with 3 races a week. Of course you won't be able to speed up your teams development or manage as lazy as one buying tokens, but that's the point as buying token has to do some things or the game would go bankrupt, but you're able to get there and reach the top all the same, buying token or not.
