Double drivers’ and constructors’ points will be awarded at the final race of the Formula One season - Abu Dhabi for 2014 - in order to maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign.

I had to read it more than once to make sure it was for real. I understand they need to improve the show, but this? really?

Perhaps the next thing is to fit those hedgehog firing mechanisms posted a while back

I personaly think u should be able to dump banana's & oil out the back of car plus fire turtle shells also, think i'll reccommend it to the FIA as they'll probably set it in the rules for 2014 also. :D

Yet if the driver's championship is a runaway at the beginning of the season and sown up before the double points race, what does it bring to the sport then?

It's like reading The Onion. What a stupid joke rule. F1 going from sport to circus.

Honestly a terrible choice because as we all remember several years ago where Massa and Hamilton where battling for every point possible leading from Hamilton winning at the middle of the pack. That was true entertainment but now the fact that winning a race grants you 50 points and becoming second is a whole 4 points difference instead of 7 makes a huge difference and will only make the viewers entertainment boring

They ruin the point of the sport, to race fairly until the end.

Well for sure it's worse than Max Mosley's 2002 idea of drivers changing teams after each race, although that was suggested by him merely as ammo for negotiations. Hopefully this is 'ammo' as well, and not something that'll happen.

The easiest way around this is to have winners ballast added to the car like they do in BTCC.
