It's not really the game's fault you lost those tokens. Was just the luck of the draw. If you see an ideal setup coming in your daily rewards (usually day 7 unless I'm mistaken) and you already have and ideal setup you can click off the daily reward screen and just wait until the race has finished and then use it for the next race. I would recommend taking note of ideal setups for each race so you don't have to pay tokens for them any more and thus not be put in this situation again.
