I've been playing this game for quite a while now, and I can never seem to get the balance between This Season and Next Season designs right. I am always seeming to have 1 good season and then 1 really poor season, while others in my league can consistently stay at the top. Can someone please give me some tips on how I can balance my designs while still being near the front as it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Since you already have a highly rated chief designer I would say at the beginning of the season to focus emphasis like 3/4 of the way to next season then when your parts next season are at around 35% change emphasis to balanced for the rest of the season. That works for me but I usually have 60% parts already to start with each season doing this. Would also reccomend more designers like around 80 or so in an everyday league.

Thanks Jay, I'll give that a go :) Also what is your outlook on spying, how many times should I do that per season and how much will it affect next season design?

In general I end up with a next season design of around 30%. With two design updates during the season break it gets me to around 60% for the season start.
Then I try to find out who has the highest design and then spy once for each part and that brings me to around 80% for each part after 7 races. Up to this point, I still only design for the current season so I did receive some updates and likely the next season design will still be below 10%.
Once I'm done spying it starts to get interesting since I have to make the choice between this and next season. Are things very promissing, I might go one to just around 90% and then start switching to next season but that all depends on what happens around me.

Depends on your league break. What I do everytime is just leave it on current season and train design every day. I've got a 5 day break between seasons and start every season with 73%, and 89% at the 6th race at Monaco.

Theres a 2 day break in between seasons in my league Yuri. Your version mightn't work in my league :P

I always worked 100% on "this season" every season, regardless of how long the break was. It was always more efficient.

I sometimes did that depending on my league start Jason, and for you how does that impact you on next season, especcially at the start?

It's fine really. You might suffer for 1 or 2 races but the upside is you're always improving. If you train design every race instead of health aswell, you get an extra 17% boost for next season.

I agree with Jason, that's what I did in a 2 day season break as well,

Thing is once you have people with 100% cars at the start of the season, you're done trying to win a season and likely anything untill halfway the season. Not that I mind by the way but that will be the case.
Agree you will be in front most of the time when designing only for the current season and therefore being very balanced throughout the season.

Is Jason's strategy for design still viable in an everyday league?
