Weather Change VS Setup Lock

Is there a reason that we can’t change setups within 10mins of a race start?  I just got screwed because during the practice it was raining, and increasing as my runs went on, to where it started at 1.4mm rain and was up to 2.1mm by the time both drivers made all 5 laps.  This was about 11-12min prior to the race start (when there is rain forecast I always try to setup as close to the race start as possible to try and prevent this very scenario that I’m posting about!).  All was well but then something came up and I couldn’t be on for the live race.  

When I checked results later my team was dead last and the info page showed it never even rained during the race, and the other teams where all on M or S tyres from the getgo, while my team had to come in immediately for a tyre change from I to M (which only even happened due to me using the advanced settings).  This cost me the race, as my lap times and car specs should have had me battling for the win.

I don’t understand why, if the weather can go from dumping rain to a completely dry track in <10min, we can’t change setups accordingly up until race time?!  So if the weather drastically changes in those 10min between setup lock and race start we are basically screwed, because now we have the wrong setup (tyres AND settings) and need to pit immediately for new tyres (but will still have car settings that are much too high).

What is the logic of this 10min buffer that we cannot change setups?  Especially when the weather forecast SPECIFICALLY tells us NOT to rely on it because it can always change.  If it can always change, why do you lock us out from changing our setups for an entire 10min (which can be an eternity in terms of weather condition changes)?!?

Yes, I used that, which is why my drivers pit after the first lap to change tyres, but still, had I not had to do that I would’ve gotten at least a podium, if not win.  


It just seems like 10min is a very long lockout window if the weather can change THAT much in that time.  It was rapidly rising rain as I was setting up, so not really any indication that 10min from then it’d be 100% dry, meaning not only are my tyres wrong to start the race but the setup is drastically off as well.

You are using advanced strategy the wrong round.  Its primarily there to ensure that if race is raining at start you will have automatically changed to wets/inters depending on how you set it up.  Most players who use this start on S or M etc and set advanced strategy in case its raining at start.


Also you can check the hourly weather on dark sky (link on forum) for the track you are racing on.  Just remember  the game operates on a 15 min delay.
