This is has been happening since the very beginning of 3D and I'm amazed nobody has picked it up! Halfway around the first lap the revs of all cars go to maximum and remain that way until they cross the start finish line for the 2nd lap. When approaching the final few corners of the first lap you also get some very strange car swapping occasionally.
