Let's talk about McLaren.....

Either they were.....

84.31% (43)

Was the McLaren also visibly suffering from porpoising? The big question for me is how good is the Mercedes PU? Apart from Williams posting in the mid-field all the Mercedes teams Qualifying top speeds was found on the bottom of the list I saw, just broken up by the two Alfa Romeo. Now I know those had a porpoising problem, as well as Mercedes, so those top speeds suffered from that for sure. So how was McLaren and Aston Martin doing there? If most of the Mercedes teams are in the porpoise camp Williams gives hope, if not and Williams just sought help in a more extreme low downforce setup then Mercedes might've lost a lot of ground due to the new fuel and sorting out last seasons reliability issues.

But for McLaren that's not the only problem so far, they lost ground compared to Williams and Aston Martin as well, but hopefully for them they 'just' haven't found the right screws to make the car work in Bahrain and it can be sorted out, and not something designed into the very basis.

Let's just hope that they'll be better at Saudi, cause McLaren should've been better than that.

Ironically, it seems that Haas has massively improved while McLaren got a massive nerf.

It's yet far from all lost. If it's porpoising, or their solution being still running relatively high and sealing the gap by vortex generation and that not working as well as the ones by other teams, then a lot of pace can be gained relatively quickly by coming up with a better solution.

unprofessional opinion, those Merc engine teams performed poorly in Bahrain so I guess there is something to do with the engine. Apart from the engine, in practice sessions, it seems that McLaren have much less porpoising then Mercedes, hopefully the brake issue wont last too long for them

It's the Mercedes power unit, rear suspension and Gearbox. All of which the four teams share. (McLaren less-so).

Toto is blaming Drag, but it's likely the engine and doesn't want to say that publically as they have 3 customer teams who would leave Mercedes if Mercedes' engine is weak.

I hope I am wrong but yikes..

Yes, in the practice events McLaren was one of the first teams looking good on porpoising, but their solution raised the car rather high above the track. That's normally very bad for a venturi tunnel, lowering the generated downforce significantly and this with those new cars relying heavily on that downforce. McLaren tried to cure that with generating air vortices with the sideskirt supposed to seal of that huge gap from air flowing inwards. Perhaps that didn't work that well.

The picture doesn't look good for the Mercedes engine, but the fastest top speed from Mercedes teams was the Williams. So maybe it's the cars of the other 3 requiring more drag inducing help to sort out their problems and the engine, while I highly doubt it's the best any more, isn't down on power as much as the first race makes believe.

Early days yet, they'll get it sorted (i hope). They lost a fair bit of practice time too as well yea?

(Let's talk about HAAS, especially K-Mag. What a return)

Yes my man, HAAS literally came outta nowhere like an RKO! Wasn't expecting P5 and P11 from them at Bahrain and somehow K-Mag literally keeps up with a Mercedes, madness.

For sure.  Would have thought Mick to be the one to get up there though but still it's only the one race so far anything can happen. (Now imagine being Bahrain if it was Grosjean that had come back and done that the crowd would have gone mental)

Indeed, Grosjean's redemption would be golden I reckon.

So unfortunate to reflect last season being a rather bright starting point for the British orange colors. Being in many top 5 verges with a illustrious 1-2 at Monza last year. It was their respective representative of Lando Norris being the fastest of Barcelona pre-season testing. Which he says himself it's a huge responsibility to follow the rest with that kind of form.

And it seems he says just about right...

As for the honey badger Danny Ric, he doesn't really drive the expandability out of that McLaren unlike Norris' pace these two weekends. He's nowhere as for now...
