Gap times before race

Just waiting for a race to start and I noticed that as soon as the red light countdown started gap times appeared next to each car before the race actually started! The then grid Positions changed to reflect these gaps at the exact second the race started before the cars had actually moved!

Never paid such close attention to a race start before, but how can this happen?

You were probably slightly delayed in that what you were seeing on track had already happened on the server. The leaderboard was just updating faster than the visuals of the track!
