As far as I remember, after the last update there is no need to worry about the weight of the driver. Has this changed yet and if not when will it happen?

Hello,
If you are talking about the minimum weight difference between men (51kg) and women (46kg) there is no difference. The advantage that women used to have for weighing less has been deactivated for a few months now.
You should still train the weight down though as weight will be reintroduced (based on bmi) and as You lvl your driver up it becomes more difficult to reduce their weight(i.e. takes a lot longer)
