I was wondering why a team that leaves a league still has their drivers be able to win the drivers championship. It happened to my league tier in May. The leading team left before the last race and still somehow won the drivers championship. My team was the championship team after that even though I was about 100 plus points behind.

Because the Drivers championship is an individual thing whereas the team championship is a team thing. Just because the team leaves the chamnpionship shouldn't mean that the driver loses his/her points.

I've never tried it but I would hope that if a driver moved teams in the same league/tier part way through the season, their drivers championship points would be the sum of the points they scored for both teams.

They are.  One season, the top team in my former league dropped one of their drivers in favor of a rookie.  I was in need of a trained driver, and snapped them up.  The driver finished third in championship (despite missing a few races) with their points scored with both of our teams.
