Which of these drivers were the best in their prime?

Definitely Jim Clark.  Winner in multiple disciplines of motor racing.

It's between him and Mario Andretti for me, though I lean towards Andretti because I'm American. Really close one though. Also might consider including JP Montoya in this conversation. 

The best driver (IMO) on the given list is Alonso.

1. You might need some glasses, Prost has the most votes.
2. Alonso wasn't beaten by Hamilton they both finished on the same points and even then that is the worst way to compare teammates, average pace and head to head is better
3. Alonso never did any of what you have said there. The downfall of that team is simply pinned on Dennis disrespecting Alonso for his immense 07 Monaco drive to win with a wounded car (said Hamilton should have won when Alonso had to slow down and adapt in order to finish the race) + then Hamilton ignoring McLaren qualifying procedure in Hungary.

Excuse me but you are all wrong. The Spy story started from a denounce from the owner of a copy shop near McLaren HQ. Ferrari invited him for a tour in its factory.

Neither Alonso nor Hamilton are angels... Do you forget last 2016 race when Hamilton played his dirtiest trick? None of them is an example.

That story about Flavio knowning and being tipped off by Alonso is utter baloney and neither does Alonso being beaten on countback by one of only a few close teammates on average pace constitute him being out of the debate. Alonso isn't at his prime in 2007, he's having to adapt away from his specific Renault aero balanced understeer style he picked up for 2005 specifically to win his two titles. Alonso hits his prime when fighting for the World Championship in 2010 and 2012.

Sorry about my vote (in Prost) being a Brazilian fan, but in my opinion, Ayrton and Alain is the best drivers of F1, then won 7 championships together in 10 years be a teammates or not, Obrigado Senna and Merci Prost

@Giovanni.  Not true it was widely reported in the press and was repeated by Dennis in a tv interview at the time.  There was nothing dirty about Abu Dhabi either most drivers at the time said they would have probably done something similar.  Dirty is what a certain German driver did in Adelaide in 1994!

You are right about Schumacher but I was talking about Hamilton being the most honest driver ever while Alonso doesn't (a biased opinion I think).

True.  Every driver in any era has probably done something they regret at some point in their career.  To reach that level you need to be ruthless and at times selfish. 

1994 is not the one you should be at all angry with Michael, he had the right to defend his place and the Hill half hearted move was typical, in-fact oddly enough, the best overtake I've ever seen him do was on the same man in Hungary 97 where he had clearly learned his lesson. 1997 Europe and Monaco 2006 is where Michael let himself down, 1994 let's not forget had seen Michael lose a maximum of 30 pts through pure FIA incompetence in both Silverstone and Spa.
