Whether or not the FIA already knew about the incriminating emails is a side issue. When Alonso made the threats neither Alonso or Ron Dennis were aware the FIA knew. The fact he attempted to blackmail the team principal into sabotaging Hamilton's race speaks volumes about his morality.
Besides which, how did the FIA already know? They knew because they had been tipped off by Flavio Briatorre. How did the team principal of Renault know about internal McLaren emails? Alonso told him.
Anyway, this thread is a poll asking for opinion on who was the best driver in their prime. IMO, any driver in their prime who is beaten by a rookie in an identical car can hardly be classed as the greatest. Especially when that Rookie has since gone on to break just about every record in the book.
That story about Flavio knowning and being tipped off by Alonso is utter baloney and neither does Alonso being beaten on countback by one of only a few close teammates on average pace constitute him being out of the debate. Alonso isn't at his prime in 2007, he's having to adapt away from his specific Renault aero balanced understeer style he picked up for 2005 specifically to win his two titles. Alonso hits his prime when fighting for the World Championship in 2010 and 2012.
Wow you really are the fatman’s number one fanboy. Where is all your evidence that disproves what said in the press and in interviews conducted at the time?
@Giovanni. Not true it was widely reported in the press and was repeated by Dennis in a tv interview at the time. There was nothing dirty about Abu Dhabi either most drivers at the time said they would have probably done something similar. Dirty is what a certain German driver did in Adelaide in 1994!
