Let me start by saying this new update has invigorated my interest in the game. I am putting a ton of energy into bringing my team into fighting shape in a very competitive league that I have been a part of for years.
I love the idea of all the improvements, especially the engine manufacturing and the future chassis manufacturing.
But it is difficult to make decisions that can have huge impact on our teams without proper information.
The engine manufacturing is released with no substantial information on the mechanics of how it all works. To really understand what your getting into you need to press the button, spend $$$ and tokens and if in the end you realize you may have made an error, there is no shutting the program down. Your stuck.
On the other side, if you want to purchase an engine you have the option of the standard game engines or player manufacturer ones. I currently run Murk, and have a consistent +4 for the season (+10acc/-6fuel), but all the player engines that I have seen so far usually have a +10 at 1 or 2 specific tracks and+1 or +2 and maybe 5 or 6 others. Without seeing the mechanics of how it all works, it makes deciding what to do difficult. If I buy an engine, is it a long term contract? Am I also stuck?
Also, I read that the engine stats reset every season. We run once a week. If I buy engines from a player who runs every day, his season ends around 3 races after I start buying engines. Do I now have to look around again because his engine reset and is no longer competitive?
What is badly needed is just some information on the mechanics of how it all works so we can make decisions that are based on something. Maybe a YouTube video showing the screens and options and a short walkthrough.

As far as I am aware, you cannot acquire engines from another league? I could be mistaken.

As a customer, you can change your engine supplier at any time - so you can decide how long you stay with the same manufacturer

Any development a manufacturer makes on their engine doesn't reset. So it won't affect a customer if their manufacturer's season ends at a different time.

You can become a customer of any team's engine by going onto their manager page and pressing the engine icon that appears.
I hope this goes some way in explaining the new engine manufacturing update.

It really doesn’t. Sorry, not trying to be argumentative. I honestly want to make sure we are doing things with the correct information.
My league has put rules in place under the assumption engines reset every season. The person who runs the league is generally very knowledgeable about the inner workings. So if he has misinformation, then I guarantee a lot of other people do also.

Everything Connor says is correct. Your league host is wrong. Engine design does not reset at the end of a season.
However, if you are buying engines off another player you need to be aware that they (not you) decide how many engine points to assign to each circuit, they can also modify the strength / weakness characteristics. There is nothing you can do about it if the characteristics don't suit your car development strategy. At least with the standard engines you know what you're going to get.
Cost wise, the manufacturer can also modify the cost per race, although you are given notification so you can end the contract.
But like Connor says, as a customer you may cancel the contract and move back to the standard engines at any point.
Currently the whole engine manufacturer system seems to favour the customer, hopefully over time the IGP Staff will monitor how the system is being used and modify some aspects. I have already seen good ideas about both parties having to agree to the contract and at least partially hiding details of the engines to rivals.

Interesting... Thanks for letting us know. We've not really gone into using engines from other leagues as there was no indication this was possible.
We're also not going to use custom engines until next season as we're in the middle of our championship.

In some respects you may be better off using engines from suppliers in the same league. The supplier is racing the same calendar as you and it is in their best interests to have the engine optimised for their next race... which just so happens to be your next race.
But be aware the manufacturer will most likely tune their engine to enhance their car design, which might not be the best for you.
Imagine they have 180dp in Acc, so they make their engine +20 Acc to take them up to 200. Not much use to you if your design already has 200dp in Acc, those extra 20dp from the engine will be wasted.

Honestly, I believe your missing the point. I think the update is probably going to be great.
I am only wondering if it’s possible to actually put out some information on how the mechanics of everything is supposed to work.
At the moment, the only way to find out is to make a choice that can not currently be undone.
Yes, I know you allocate points. And you get points with each race. And you can use tokens also. But without a way to just see how it basically all works, we are making decisions blind.

- To become an an engine manufacturer you need to be at least L20.
- If you choose to manufacture engines it is a one way street, there is no going back. You will only be able to use the engines you make, the old standard engines (Murk, Tifosi etc.) will all become unavailable to you.
- Such a short time after the update most teams will be maximum L21 which means they can only supply engines to two teams. They will have to supply themselves so they can only supply engines to one other team.

- For each circuit the maximum number of EP you can assign is the same as your manager level.

can you only supply 1 team other than your own? I've seen a lot of teams only offer to 2/2 teams.

It’s level dependent. A level 21 can only supply themselves and one other. The number increases as your level goes up.

Hopefully the part where ‘both parties having to agree’ comes sooner than later, I was about to supply my engine to someone in my league but just discovered it had been poached by an unwanted customer from another league :/ Would’ve been nice if I had the option to accept their custom or not or remove them completely, atm my only option is to crank the price up to £1 million and extort them until they’re broke.

Problem is even extorting them until their broke doesn't change much. I've got an inactive Rookie using mine who will probably never return to the game so their funds will go negative and they'll still hog the space.

If true that seems exploitable. You create a few rookie teams put your engine price to the max and then you profit . Yes money are useless compared to tokens but still
