Porpoising effect

Given this: "Dolphins are by far more prevalent than porpoises. Most scientists agree that there are 32 dolphin species (plus five closely related species of river dolphin) and only six porpoise species"

How come they don't call it Dolphining? 

I just searched it up. Porpoising refers to the action of leaping out of the water to clear waves and get oxygen. Both dolphins and porpoises porpose, so do penguins I think. 

Typically it happens at higher speeds where the animal can’t stop to simply rise for more oxygen. I guess some engineer saw all these cars bouncing up and down and thought of dolphins for some reason and it just caught on.

I don’t think anyone at HQ named any effect based on the number of living species in a family of animals.

I imagine that it just sounded better.. rolls off the tongue easier, i've not studied them to know which one porpoises at a faster rate but it would be ironic if Dolphins actually did.  I think that either one wouldn't porpoise at a high rate like a 2022 Mercedes would.
