Hi Guys, I just bought a new designer who's level 8 with full experience and skills level, yet I am only getting 7% design tops apposed to 14% which my old CD gave me at level 6.. Anyone know why this is? :)

Starting at level 8 you need test rig and wind tunnel to improve your design process, then a good designer (like Tim Meyer).
And the most important part now : design upgrade is based on your current design and of course the slide (current/next).
For example, 50% gives +11% when 80% gives only +5%.

Since players are always talking about design getting screwy, I am going to share how it works. This is all based off of what I can remember, so it's only 99% accurate :)

The first half of this photo regards design development for 100% next season emphasis without the test rig and wind tunnel and the second half accounts for those two facilities' design bonuses.

Enjoy!

And the design emphasis bar can be clicked on and adjusted with the left and right arrow keys for precision emphasis preference. There are 100 ticks on the emphasis bar, so you can do a 50 current/50 next season design focus, or 25/75 focus, etc.

It's too hard to work out Blunion but this might help :)

Day 1
This season performance: Sidepods (+15%), Front wing (+16%), Rear wing (+15%), Underbody (+15%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

Day3
This season performance: Sidepods (+12%), Front wing (+12%), Rear wing (+12%), Underbody (+12%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

Day5
This season performance: Sidepods (+10%), Front wing (+10%), Rear wing (+10%), Underbody (+10%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

We have gained 20% performance from studying the Rear wing

Day7
This season performance: Sidepods (+8%), Front wing (+8%), Rear wing (+4%), Underbody (+8%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

We have gained 16% performance from studying the Front wing

Day9
This season performance: Sidepods (+6%), Front wing (+3%), Rear wing (+3%), Underbody (+6%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

Day11 & only 8 races left in the season.
This season performance: Sidepods (+5%), Front wing (+3%), Rear wing (+3%), Underbody (+5%)

Next season performance: Sidepods (+2%), Front wing (+2%), Rear wing (+2%), Underbody (+2%)

I posted that really late at night, I really should have refined it, the simplest way to have explained it was the total amount of design percentage available.

With a wind tunnel and test rig the max available design percentage on a car with 1% components is 22%, the least is 3% (when components are 90%+ on current season).

Without a wind tunnel and test rig the max available on a car with 1% components is 11% and the least is 2% (when components are 95%+ on current season).

Easiest way I think to refine it would be to count current levels 1-9% 10-19% :)

no chance that blunions numbers are accurate. i have never seen higher than 7% ever when designing

That's because you have a different style of design emphasis. I am going to guess your design emphasis ticker is somewhere closer to the center of the bar.

Well in the list he done out it was not far off being spot on for someone with a wind tunnel as you can see above my starting value of 29 gives an increase of 16% & 30 gives a 15% increase.
I always use 100% one way or the other I never do 50-50.

With the facilities, always max the amount to spend on dev.

Have you bought the test rig and wind tunnel?

I can get 21% dev since I got those built.

1% current year will full to left (all next yr dev)

so do you always build for next year or is there a point in the season when you switch from this year to next year?

It depends on what model you want to follow. There is the on season/ off season. You will have a very good car one season and a poor one next. I think choosing this really depends on the league your in. If most of the league do on/off you will struggle to win titles as someone ALWAYS has a good car.

In this case I start this season with 1% car and only dev for next season at the start. I gain 21% ever 2 days and quickly have my car 100% for next season. I think turn it entirely this season, and start gaining 21% every other day, with that % reducing the more developed this car gets. Throw in some spying and around race 10 I will have an 80% car. I wont win many races, put will pick up some decent points and catch the odd rain race etc for a podium or win. The next season I am on form from the start with 100%

The other option is a sliding scale of somewhere in the middle, with an average car every year.. I dont know enought about that one as the league I have raced in has been on off season from before I joined.
