If I remember correctly this means that the driver has matched your level. You can no longer train a driver to be better than your level.

If you are level 10, the your drivers current maximum is level 10 and you wont be able to train them till you get to level 11.

I thought it was only impossibel to raise a specific skill over your level cap.

=> If you are lvl 10, and your driver has allready lvl 11, you should still be able to train him/her in their lower skills.
So, if, for example, composure is 5, you could train that.

Or if your drivers overall lvl is 9, and he has 10 slow corners, you can't raise that skill any further.

At least that was how I thought it works.

i am in the process of training my driver who is on the level cap but it is slow going to get the stamina to 9, i got to do it again and then again for attacking. however i am just short of level 11 manager so a few more points i hope should just come back as the cap level is raised.

If it is the case that you can't rain drivers beyond their overall level cap, why is it I can buy a driver with attributes way above his OA?

@Jack - if you do buy one above your level, he will be levelled off to your level. So a waste of money really.

Because these drivers have been trained by other teams and then released. This is why their stats are skewed. It's perfectly allowed to have them.

Nathan is referring to when I was pruning skills on drivers down to level caps, but that's over. We're done levelling off attributes because overall levels are in alignment now. The ones that are on the market are yours to keep.

So if I, as a level 9 buy a driver with some stats at 13, but with an average of level 9, can I train everything up to level nine, giving me a driver above level nine on average? That seems utterly unfair when I bought my current driver at level 8 and spent the last three months training her, now all her stats have been slammed down to nine, and its impossible to go above until another couple of months time when I level up to level ten?

Well, the difference is, that you will get only a few stats higher then you level cap this way. And then quite a few will be lower then your cap, for which you propably need quite some time to get them up.

But thats the same for everybody.

If we'd keept the old driver skills, we would have lvl 5/6 managers running around in rookie with skills around 14, while newcommers could get 4-5 after the gained some lvls.
