How do you know the life of the tires so you can make your pit strategy

That is something you will have to get a feel for as you are new to the game. I won't, and I hope other players don't tell you so you can learn for yourself.

But I'm sure somebody kinder than I will spill the beans. *cough*jamesgreer*cough*

Well, you got the "tyre wear" of the track & the temperature.

So, just look at the life time of your tyres in this race, and compare those two upper values with the ones of the next race.

Then guess.

Then learn from your mistake in guessing.

Then guess better the next race.

Guess work lol
look at a tracks tyre wear level and the number of laps in the race

Estimate
ss does
s should do 3-4 more than ss
m should do 3-4 more than s
h should do 3-4 more than m

Tyres always last longer than i actually run so I cant be telling cause i dont know the answer.

Right now SS is a lot faster than S but wears a lot faster than S too. So it is effectively equal to Ultrasoft tyres

It's something we're also looking at including in the practice lap data, but it's hard to esimate due to how it fluctuates with push levels, tyre compounds and so on. So it's not as straightforward as fuel, and I'm not sure how we'll eventually include tyre data.

The practice lap data is based on neutral in my guess work & I always practice with the race tyre so the drivers get a feel for it

Practice is actually based on the currently set push level.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to include it Jack, we need to have some things to work out for ourselves and not be spoon fed everything.

Rule 1 of software development: Just because something can be done doesn't always mean it should be ;-)

Agree, but a rough estimate/hint for new players wouldn't hurt i guess.

We want to give you the information you need to make decisions, and then it's our job to make those decisions interesting by providing multiple options. We don't want only one "right" decision and the fake "challenge" of uncovering it because it's hidden with bad and misleading information. That's just annoying. :P

You'll have to forgive us if we haven't yet balanced everything to make multiple approaches viable, but we're working on it. That's the goal. Then the information is a tool to make decisions, understand your performance and progress, rather than a secret sauce in a world where everyone is flying blind and using guesswork to get across the line.

You want to give us tools to make decisions.

Can we add an amount of fuel(number of laps), push level & compound to use in each practice stint ourselves?
We will have tyre wear, fuel & lap time estimates to take into the strategy page.
Doing that will give Keith the answer to his question in practice, how many laps can he do before he needs to change tyres.
