Is it because of copyright that the shapes of the tracks are wrong?

I believe so. All the shapes used to be accurate but were changed when 3D was introduced. Now it is only some street circuits which are accurate. Although thinking about it, maybe none of them are.

Will need to pay attention. I thought street circuits may not be subject to copyright in the same way real circuits are, but it could be that is not universal.

Yes.  FiA and F1 have copywrited and trademarked the actual track layouts and IgP towers did not think that the amounts required to licence those layouts was a good price to pay when initially rendering the 3D tracks.  So they had to alter the layouts as to not infringe copywrite laws.

I thought that some of the tracks were rendered to 3D from an older game which is why Spa had the old bus stop, and the rendering on some altered the track length and therefore the lap count. It could be copyright but most of these tracks are not confined to F1, the rules over pretty much all categories are governed by the FIA but events also have their own local rules so that doesn't make any sense.

The tracks were pretty much true to life before 3D came into play. I don't specifically recall what Belgium was like but I could probably go find it on youtube on one of a guy who went by the name of anakin's old channels. I go find it every now and again so I can relive racing at GB09 and Germany (Nurburgring GP)

I do miss having 2 different GB layouts. RIP Bridge Corner

Copyright doesn't sit with FIA or Formula One. It sits with the Track owners. For example, Silverstone is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club. iGP would require a license from them in order to showcase the track to iGP.

Definitely a copyright issue.  I remember the discussions around 3d and the price to copyright was a msjor issue.  Maybe due to the F1 game makers more than the FIA.  But copyright was the issue.
