If it wasn’t raining then Inters won’t count as you need to use 2 dry compounds

Two-tyre rule no longer applies if it rained during the race.

It actually has to be raining at the start of the race as in actual wet tire conditions. If the track is still wet and is in the dry tire window then it won't count so 0.1-0.3mm depending on the track. (maybe a total lap completed on them as well idk for sure but pitting on lap 1 wouldn't count if this is true).

There are 3 different positions to Consider when it comes to the two tyre rule.

Dry Race - Only Dry Tyre compounds count towards the two tyre rule.

Wet Race - The Two tyre rule is disabled. A race is classified as wet if rain falls during the race. To be specific, I believe this is from the moment the cars start moving, to the moment the race finishes.

Dry Race with Water on Track - If there is water on the track after the race has started, but rain has not fallen during the race, Intermediate tyres will count towards the two tyre rule.

To be absolutely clear - The race is considered to have started once the lights have gone out and the cars have started moving. Water on the track and rain falling in the 8 minutes between qualifying resolving and the lights going out does not affect the processes above.

Thanks for the replies all.
Seems harsh when already being penalised by having to make an extra stop. But if them the rules.
It was wet for qualifying, although no longer raining. Fully dry by the time the race started. No options to switch to dry before the race started - seems to be temperamental when this option becomes available.

Hi Tom

Not temperamental, but your strategy has to be set a certain way for this to be available. On the grid you have a choice of 3 tyres to start from:

  • The tyre you set in your main strategy for the first stint of the race

  • Intermediate Tyres

  • Wet Tyres

If you set the main strategy to run intermediates for the first stint, you lose the ability to select a dry compound. The best thing to do is usually to set a dry strategy and used advanced strategy to handle when to use intermediate tyres.

Extra Note: Historically accessing the menu to change the compound on the grid can be temperamental however, the best way to do it is to access the strategy planner in the viewer (hammer and spanner Icon) and then ensure you have stint 1 selected.

Assuming you set your main strategy for dry weather, you should see the 3 tyre options available. If you can see more than 1 dry compound, you are not looking at the first stint.

Hope all this is helpful :)
