Trying to re-sign a driver

I have a driver I had before on my shortlist, the driver is now free but I cant sign him. The driver is in excellent condition and my team is lvl 30 so it would be a perfect match again I think. 
Is there any logical explanation for why I cant get him back? He been into another team for a while and I dont think he is retiring

Hi Rune,

If you are referring to the "buy now" option whereby if a player on your shortlist bacame available it got removed, you will now see a padlock in the divers contract tab.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of that since its been a long time since I picked up a driver from outside the youth academy
